Obviously not those who invest $ 1-200 deal with the security of deposits at a brokerage firm. It is compulsory for European brokerage firms to join a fund that insures deposits, up to at least € 20,000.
One of my favorite brokers, Think Markets offered this security up to 50,000 British
Pounds previously. However, last week I received an email from them, in which they wrote that the insurance is valid up to one million Pounds. A detailed statement can be found here.
I think it is not a question what such a deal means for those who would like to manage their deposits themselves. (I think is clear to everyone that this insurance pays only when a brokerage firm becomes insolvent. Trading losses are not covered.)
